A LATE NIGHT DATE WITH LONDON’S MOST EXCITING VENUE

Issued : 19 September 2007

TRAFALGAR STUDIOS ANNOUNCES AUTUMN SEASON 2007

London’s most innovative theatre venue, Trafalgar Studios, has announced its autumn season for 2007. Operated by Ambassador Theatre Group, Trafalgar Studios is attracting a wider audience to the West End. Trafalgar Studios acts as a gateway for diverse and cutting edge theatre that does not take place anywhere else in the West End.

This month Michael Morpurgo’s PRIVATE PEACEFUL (until 29 September, Studio 2), relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night he looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon. This remarkable, award-winning production is back by popular demand following a sell-out tour and West End run.

The inspiration for PRIVATE PEACEFUL came from Morpurgo’s visit to Ypres where he was shocked to discover how many young soldiers were court-martialled and shot for cowardice during the First World War. PRIVATE PEACEFUL won the Blue Peter Children’s Book of the Year 2005.

FANNY & FAGGOT/STACY (2 – 27 October, Studio 2) is a double bill from Jack Thorne, the writer of Channel 4’s Shameless and Skins. The sell-out London production of FANNY & FAGGOT transfers to the West End - a funny yet stark exploration of the dark and troubled world of Mary Bell. In STACY starring Ralph Little (The Royle Family), we meet Rob, who faces life’s problems with only a copy of FHM and a Call Centre Manager as guidance… sometimes he gets it very wrong.

Old Vic Productions presents VINCENT RIVER (30 October – 17 November, Studio 2). Davey has seen something he can’t forget. Anita has been forced to flee her home. Tonight their paths cross, with devastating consequences.

Thrilling, heartbreaking and funny by turns, this timely revival of VINCENT RIVER from the award-winning writer of The Pitchfork Disney, Mercury Fur and Leaves of Glass stars Lynda Bellingham (Sugar Mummies, Losing Louis) and Mark Field (An Inspector Calls, Brideshead Revisited).

SOME KIND OF BLISS (20 November – 15 December, Studio 2) by Samuel Adamson (All About my Mother) is a brilliant, spiky and touching new South Bank comedy, with TMA Award nominee Lucy Briers, originally produced for National Theatre Platforms. SOME KIND OF BLISS is the story of a London pop journalist whose life is changed forever by two unpredicted incidents.

For Christmas, Harry Potter Mania is taken to a whole new level with POTTED POTTER: THE UNAUTHORISED HARRY EXPERIENCE – A PARODY BY DAN AND JEFF (17 December 07 – 5 January 08, Studio 2)

Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, as seen on Blue Peter, take on the ultimate challenge to perform ALL the Potter books in 60 minutes, with the help of endless costumes, brilliant songs, ridiculous props and a little magic. With a special appearance from a very frightening fire-breathing dragon, and even a game of Quidditch involving the audience! A must see for Potter addicts and a great introduction to the series for anyone who’s ever wondered what the fuss is about. (Age guidance 6+)

In another bold move that that will change the late night landscape of West End theatre, Trafalgar Studios is opening its doors for a unique late-night collection of eclectic new work in LATE NIGHT TRAFALGAR. Starting this month, Theatrecares presents exclusive Late Night Cabarets in Studio 1 with CAST OF THE LION KING (20 September) and CAST OF MARY POPPINS (1 October). Paines Plough presents LATER (8 & 15 October, 5 & 12 November) in Studio 2, an exciting, surprising and intimate event, featuring writers performing their own work, newly commissioned plays and extracts from works-in-progress. Studio 2 also has some great Late Night Comedy for Christmas including REBUS McTAGGART: CRIME WARRIOR (19 – 22 December) and X-FILES IMPROV (2 – 5 January).
