SWEET WILLIAM TRANSFERS TO TRAFALGAR STUDIO 2
Renowned actor Michael Pennington performs his vivid interpretation of the life and work of William Shakespeare in SWEET WILLIAM when the critically acclaimed show transfers to London’s innovative theatre venue, Trafalgar Studios in the West End from Monday 4 February 2008.
Drawing on forty years of experience with leading companies and in the West End, Pennington celebrates the rich diversity of Shakespeare’s vision, giving voice to a wealth of characters — young and old; rich and poor; comic and tragic; male and female — and demonstrates the continuing relevance of ‘Sweet William’ to our everyday lives.
Michael Pennington has enjoyed a highly successful stage and screen career spanning 5 decades. Theatre performances include The Bargain (UK tour), Little Nell (Theatre Royal Bath), The Best of Friends (Hampstead Theatre and UK Tour), The Cosmonaut’s Last Message to the Woman He Once Loved in the Former Soviet Union (Donmar), Anton, Chekhov (solo show), The Madness of George III, The Seagull, What The Butler Saw (UK Tour), lead role in Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens for the RSC, Hamlet, The Winter’s Tale and Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde (Gielgud Theatre).
Michael’s television credits include Trial and Retribution, Holby City, Silent Witness, The Bill, Waking the Dead, Dinosaur Hunters and Dalziel & Pascoe.
Sweet William is produced by The Ambassador Theatre Group Limited.
Operated by Ambassador Theatre Group, Trafalgar Studios is attracting a wider audience to the West End, by offering highly inventive and exciting new theatre. It also provides a home for work that might not otherwise have the opportunity to play in Central London.

Editorial Note:
The £750k redevelopment of Trafalgar Studios began in May 2004 with the opening of the 400-seat Studio 1, with a sell-out run of the RSC’s Othello starring Anthony Sher. The intimate 100-seat Studio 2 was opened in November 2005, thanks to a generous donation by entrepreneur and patron of the arts, Christina Smith. Ambassador Theatre Group is currently the largest theatre group in the West End and the second largest in the UK, with a total of 23 venues.
