NATURAL NYLON AND AMBASSADOR THEATRE GROUP ANNOUNCE
Issued : 11 January 2001
Natural Nylon Entertainment (NN), the leading British talent based Film Company, and Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), the leading theatre owning and producing company in the West End and regions, announced today the formation of a joint venture company, Natural Nylon Theatre Company Limited, and a development deal with the Young Vic Theatre Company.
Natural Nylon Theatre is co owned jointly by NN and ATG. It has been formed to produce an exciting range of drama, comedy and mid-scale musicals on the British stage. It will be commissioning work by new writers, as well as producing the revivals of classics for the audiences of today.
The Natural Nylon Theatre board consists of Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Sadie Frost, Jonny Lee Miller, Sean Pertwee, Brad Adams, Tony Miller, Damon Bryant and Kevin Loader for NN, and Howard Panter and Rupert Gavin* for ATG.
ATG and Natural Nylon Theatre Company also announced today a wide-ranging development relationship with the Young Vic Theatre Company. It is intended that several of Natural Nylon theatre projects will be staged in collaboration with the Young Vic Theatre Company with a view to transferring into the West End.
Where possible, several of Natural Nylon’s projects will be developed with the express intention of evolving from stage to film production, building on the successful tradition of British film often originating from the theatre. By close co-operation in this venture between ATG and NN, it is anticipated that a better development process will be created between the two media formats.
Several of Natural Nylon Theatre's productions will feature Natural Nylon founding members, but will also draw on other high calibre talent in the UK, in productions that reflect the Natural Nylon creative ethos.
The first projects that are being announced today include the following:
-A new production of Dr Faustus, to be directed by David Lan.
-A new adaptation of Chekhov's Three Sisters, to be written by Christopher Hampton and directed by Sean Mathias.
-A new production of The Collector**, adapted by Mark Healy from the novel by John Fowles, to be directed by Mark Clements.
