AMBASSADOR THEATRE GROUP DEVELOPS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH ENGLISH BRIDGE UNION

Issued : 14 August 2003

AMBASSADOR THEATRE GROUP DEVELOPS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH ENGLISH BRIDGE UNION

The Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) and the English Bridge Union (EBU) have announced they are developing a joint strategic partnership.

There is a large theatre crossover for bridge players and the partnership will see bridge events hosted by ATG venues, with competitions being held in the afternoon, followed by a show in the evening. There will also be theatre previews, information and ticket offers in the EBU magazine and on the website, to promote ATG theatres and co-productions. EBU members will also enjoy a discount on their tickets to any ATG venue for Monday and Tuesday performances.

The news was announced as the EBU holds its 36th Summer Congress in Brighton. On Wednesday 13th August, a number of delegates will be treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the historic Theatre Royal Brighton and a champagne reception. Built in 1807, ATG took over management of the venue four years ago and since then, it has become one of the most successful theatres on the South Coast.

ATG is the UK's second largest theatre-owning and operating company both in the West End and separately in the regions, with a total of 21 venues under its management, including 11 in the West End. ATG is also one of the country's foremost theatre producers and has been behind some highly successful and innovative co-productions in Britain and internationally, including the Royal National Theatre's Noises Off, Vincent in Brixton, Ed Hall's A Midsummer Night's Dream and See You Next Tuesday.

The EBU is the official governing body in England for the internationally renowned card game bridge. 1000 EBU-affiliated bridge clubs provide facilities, tournaments, tuition and information for over 90,000 players. The EBU organises over 50 national events each year and also stages a wide range of social events with organisations such as the National Trust. As well as selecting the England national teams at all age levels, the EBU continues to raise substantial amounts of money for charity and works behind-the-scenes in deprived areas, alongside bodies such as the Youth Charter for Sports and Arts and the Police Community Clubs, encouraging children to become actively involved through its MiniBridge schemes.

ATG remains pro-active in developing joint strategic partnerships with a variety of high-profile organisations including Orange, Nectar, Saga, WH Smith, Laura Ashley and Past Times, designed to increase ATG's sales channels, grow new customers, and add more value to the ATG offer.

Pat Westwell, Group Head of Marketing, ATG
We are thrilled at this partnership with the English Bridge Union and it is a great opportunity for both organisations to further increase their audiences. The partnership will also benefit members of the EBU who will be able to enjoy a range of offers to see a variety of high quality entertainment at ATG venues in the West End and across the country.

Denis Robson, Chairman of the EBU
We are delighted to launch the partnership with ATG. Combining bridge and the theatre will enable many EBU members to experience two of their passions on the same day on the same premises.
