ATG NAMED IN THE SUNDAY TIMES VIRGIN ATLANTIC FAST TRACK 100
Issued : 12 December 2003
The Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) has been named as one of Britain's fastest-growing private companies in The Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 League Table. ATG is the first ever theatre group to be included in the Table.
Reporting an annual growth rate of nearly 70% and annual sales figures topping £44million, ATG was awarded a place in the seventh annual League Table, which was compiled by Fast Track, the independent research and networking events company, working with Price Waterhouse Accountants.
ATG has enjoyed exceptional growth and success since it was established in 1992. Co-founded by Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire, it has grown from just one theatre in the West End - the Duke of York's - and one in the regions - The Ambassadors, Woking - to become the UK's second largest theatre-owning and operating company in the West End and also in the regions, with a total of 22 venues under its management, including 11 in the West End. Most recently, it has taken over the New Wimbledon Theatre which will be opening in February 2004.
ATG is also one of the country's foremost theatre producers and has been behind some of the most successful and innovative productions in Britain and internationally, including Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker! (currently at Sadler's Wells and then on worldwide tour), Sweet Panic (at the Duke of York's) and Les Liaisons Dangereuses (at the Playhouse). Summer 2003 saw ATG open more productions in the West End than any other theatre group. They included Shared Experience's award-winning After Mrs. Rochester, Edward Hall's all-male A Midsummer Night's Dream and the award-winning Royal National Theatre production of Vincent in Brixton.
Howard Panter, Managing Director, ATG
"We are of course delighted that our exceptional growth has been recognised and being the only company in the theatre sector in the list, it is acknowledged that theatre can be a grown-up serious business."
