ROSEMARY SQUIRE BECOMES NEW PATRON OF LINK LEISURE CHARITY

Issued : 2 March 2005

Rosemary Squire, Executive Director of the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), has become a new patron of the Woking-based charity Link Leisure.

Link Leisure was established to support children and adults with learning disabilities to take part in community and leisure activities. The charity covers the boroughs of Woking and Surrey Heath.

It organises a large number of activities throughout the year including weekly horse-riding, football and badminton sessions, holiday schemes for 4 – 25 year olds, as well as family fun days, swimming galas and sports days. It has just embarked on a new drama project involving its members in all aspects of drama and theatre skills – including script ideas, writing, costume and stage direction. The members also make regular trips to the theatre and have recently been to see Kiss Me Kate, Footloose, Grease and Fame the Musical, all at the New Victoria Theatre. Link Leisure welcomes people with a wide spectrum of learning disabilities from mild development delay to severe autism.

Rosemary Squire is co-founder and Executive Director of ATG, the second largest theatre group both in the West End and also in the UK regions, with a total of 23 venues, including the Ambassadors complex in Woking (the company’s Head Office). ATG is also one of the country’s foremost theatre producers and has been behind some of the most successful and innovative productions in Britain and internationally including Matthew Bourne’s Highland Fling, The Witches (starring Ruby Wax) and Ying Tong. With Clear Channel Entertainment, ATG is also producing Michael Grandage’s new production of Guys and Dolls starring Ewan McGregor and Jane Krakowski, due to open at the Piccadilly Theatre this June.

As Executive Director, Rosemary is responsible for ATG’s core business and new projects team, which has won tenders for many regional venues, including the King’s Theatre in Glasgow, Richmond Theatre and the New Wimbledon Theatre.

Rosemary first became involved with Link Leisure through her daughter Jenny, 19, who has learning difficulties.

Rosemary Squire, Executive Director, ATG
“Link Leisure is an extraordinary organisation which relies on the commitment of many generous volunteers as well as expert, caring professionals. One of the greatest challenges for young people with learning difficulties is making friends. Link Leisure has given my daughter the perfect environment to build friendships for the first time, giving her confidence, improved self-esteem and hours of fun. It has transformed her life and I hope my support of the organisation will help offer the same opportunity to many other deserving young people.”

Lesley Pitt, General Manager, Link Leisure
“Link Leisure is delighted with the news and looks forward to a happy and strong partnership in the coming years. The management team has always been impressed with Rosemary’s understanding and empathy with people with a learning disability, so this is very much a positive step forward.”
