LONDON’S MOST EXCITING VENUE UNVEILS SPRING SEASON 2008

Issued : 27 November 2007

London’s most innovative theatre venue, Trafalgar Studios, has unveiled its spring season for 2008. Operated by Ambassador Theatre Group, Trafalgar Studios is attracting a wider audience to the West End. Trafalgar Studios acts as a gateway for diverse and cutting edge theatre that does not take place anywhere else in the West End.

STUDIO 1
Following huge critical acclaim and a sold-out season at The Menier Chocolate Factory, DEALER’S CHOICE (6December – 29 March) transfers to Trafalgar Studios for a strictly limited season.

When a stranger joins the regular poker game at Stephen’s restaurant, the stakes are high and winning has its price. An explosive and hilarious evening unfolds as father and son are pitted against each other and friendships are tested to breaking point.

Actor-director Samuel West returns to London to direct the first major West End revival of Patrick Marber’s debut play DEALER’S CHOICE.

STUDIO 2
For Christmas, Harry Potter Mania is taken to a whole new level with POTTED POTTER: THE UNAUTHORISED HARRY EXPERIENCE – A PARODY BY DAN AND JEFF (17 December 07 – 5 January 08, Studio 2)

Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, as seen on Blue Peter, take on the ultimate challenge to perform ALL the Potter books in 60 minutes, with the help of endless costumes, brilliant songs, ridiculous props and a little magic. With a special appearance from a very frightening fire-breathing dragon, and even a game of Quidditch involving the audience! A must see for Potter addicts and a great introduction to the series for anyone who’s ever wondered what the fuss is about. (Age guidance 6+)

ANGRY YOUNG MAN and THE EXPLORER (8 January – 2 February) are two exciting new plays written and directed by Ben Woolf. The international award-winning hit comedy, ANGRY YOUNG MAN, sees Yuri, a brilliant Eastern European surgeon, arriving in London in search of work and a new life. The world premiere of THE EXPLORER follows the foreign travels with Douglas M. Charles, a Victorian gentleman with a very dark secret. Mystery, deceit and adventure ensue!

Renowned actor Michael Pennington performs his vivid interpretation of the life and work of William Shakespeare in SWEET WILLIAM (4- 16 February). Drawing on forty years of experience with leading companies and in the West End, Pennington celebrates the rich diversity of Shakespeare’s vision, giving voice to a wealth of characters — young and old; rich and poor; comic and tragic; male and female — and demonstrates the continuing relevance of ‘Sweet William’ to our everyday lives.

WORLD’S END (20 February – 8 March) is a new award-winning play by Paul Sellar. Kat is moving out of the London flat she shares with ex-boyfriend, Ben. Helping her are best friend, Thea, and new man in her life, Josh. Ben (who’s not even meant to be there) is hurt and angry, and still in love with Kat. But is it now too late to tell her…?

SNOWBOUND (12 March – 19 April) is a beautiful new play about love. The Connor brothers have always had to look after themselves. Tom is the charming businessman, while for Alex small things can be overwhelming. But when Tom’s wife dies, it’s only Alex who can make Tom’s world work again.

In one tense and desperate night, a sibling reunion evokes powerful childhood memories, as buried secrets are unearthed in HELLO AND GOODBYE (22 April – 17 May). A raw and profound autobiographical masterpiece, award-winning playwright Fugard dramatically captures the explosive conflict that emerges when family ties are fully exposed.

In a bold move that is already changing the late night landscape of West End theatre, Trafalgar Studios is opening its doors for LATE NIGHT TRAFALGAR. PAINES PLOUGH presents LATER, a series of unique late night events that see an eclectic mix of new and established playwrights taking to the stage to read from their own work. Studio 2 also has some great Late Night Comedy for Christmas including REBUS McTAGGART: CRIME WARRIOR (19 – 22 December) and X-FILES IMPROV (2 – 5 January).
