STEVE GUTTENBERG TO STAR IN CINDERELLA AT THE CHURCHILL BROMLEY THIS CHRISTMAS!
Issued : 8 July 2008
STEVE GUTTENBERG is to star in CINDERELLA at THE CHURCHILL in Bromley this Christmas!!
The actor, most famous for 80’s blockbusters such as Police Academy and Three Men and A Baby, will play ‘Baron Hard-up’ in this year’s traditional family pantomime.
Steve said: "I am looking forward to the honour and the fun of performing in Bromley. There is everything an actor needs to practice his craft with an entertaining show and a talented cast. I appreciate being invited to participate in such a time honoured tradition."
This will be the second year running that Bromley has secured a major American star to appear in panto. Paul Michael Glaser set hearts racing and scored record sales when he played ‘Captain Hook’ last year.
Derek Nicholls, Chief Executive of The Churchill, says it is a very exciting time for the theatre: “Steve was one of the biggest movie stars of 1980s, and it’s amazing to think that news of Bromley’s renowned panto has made its way to the Hollywood Hills.”
Steve played Carey Mahoney in the Police Academy series, Michael in 3 Men and a Baby and Newton in Short Circuit. Other film credits include: Cocoon; Diner; The Boys from Brazil. This year Steve was one of 12 contestants on the 6th season of Dancing with the Stars. He is involved in a lot of charity work: he co-runs ‘Sight for Students’, an organisation which helps provide glasses for 50,000 underprivileged and visually challenged children throughout their school years. He built the Guttenhouse apartment complex, which offers free residence for young people coming out of foster care. He also serves as an Ambassador for Children’s Issues for the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
Steve’s co-star will be the absolutely fabulous comedienne HELEN LEDERER who began her career at London’s Comedy Story and played ‘Catriona’ in Ab Fab. Helen will wave a wand and bring some magic as well as comedy to the show when she plays the ‘Fairy Godmother’.
Helen has also starred in numerous television shows including: One Foot in the Grave; Bottom; French and Saunders; The Young Ones. Theatre credits: Full House, The Hairless Diva; The Vagina Monologues. Helen is also a regular contributor to Woman’s Hour and has been a panellist on radio comedy shows such as, The News Quiz and Just a Minute.
Cinderella runs from Friday 5 December to Sunday 18 January at The Churchill, Bromley. Tickets are available by calling Ticket Sales on 0870 060 6620 or online at www.churchilltheatre.co.uk (Bkg fee)
