AMBASSADOR THEATRE GROUP FINALISE DEVELOPMENT DEAL WITH THE YOUNG VIC THEATRE COMPANY

Issued : 1 March 2001

Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) has finalised negotiations with the Young Vic Theatre Company that will see a close long-term collaboration between the two companies.

The initiative will take the form of collaboration on co-productions; transfers to the West End, regional and international venues; the development and commission of new scripts and the work of new directors and designers, with a particular focus on the YV Studio.

ATG and the Young Vic Theatre Company have already successfully worked together (and with the RSC) on a national tour and West End run of A Servant to Two Masters at the New Ambassadors, and are currently enjoying outstanding success on a world-wide tour.

David Lan, Artistic Director for the Young Vic Theatre Company commented, “When I started in the theatre there were three distinct domains: the fringe, the subsidised sector and the West End. Now there’s only one and we all work together. It’s terrific to have ATG as partners in creating work and inventing ways for younger artists to do surprising new productions. Collaboration is the way forward.”

Meryl Faiers, ATG’s Head of Production sees this relationship as a significant step forward: “ATG is delighted to be forging this new relationship with the Young Vic which we hope will bring the YV company’s remarkable talents to an even wider audience. It is also the perfect complement to our newly formed joint venture company, Natural Nylon Theatre and we hope to be announcing full details of our first three-way co-production very shortly.”

The collaboration between ATG and the Young Vic Theatre Company will mean that several Natural Nylon Theatre projects, starring British talents such as Jude Law and Ewan McGregor, will hopefully be staged at the Young Vic.
