THEATRE AUDIENCES RAISE OVER £40,000 FOR TSUNAMI VICTIMS

Issued : 7 January 2005

Audiences at Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) venues across the UK have given over £40,000 so far towards the Tsunami Disaster Appeal.

Most of the money has been raised through collections at the end of performances, encouraged by announcements from the cast on stage. In many cases, the companies themselves have been helping to collect money, including the West End casts of Simply Heavenly, Sweeney Todd and Romeo & Juliet at the Albery.

Audiences at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking have given over £10,000 alone. In addition, the Churchill Theatre in Bromley is holding an auction of panto memorabilia next week and various theatres have collected clothes to send out to south-east Asia.

David Blyth, Operations Director, ATG
“The response has been incredible and we would like to thank all our customers for their support and generosity.”
