Schubert’s B minor Symphony, in its ‘unfinished’ two-movement state, seems curiously perfect: visionary music of haunting atmosphere. Bruch’s hugely popular Concerto is an evergreen of vitality and melody - the ideal showpiece for the extraordinary talented Chloë Hanslip. Beethoven’s immortal Fifth Symphony, with its thundering drama set the standards for composers to follow, and for many remains unsurpassable.
