Introducing Rachel Rimmer “My name is Rachel Rimmer, dancer and professional musician. I’m delighted to be taking on the position of Dance Artist in Residence for the Regent Theatre and Victoria Hall. Having been involved in many fantastic projects within the theatres before now, I am very excited about coming back, being creative with the people of Stoke-on-Trent and making more wonderful and inspiring dance!” I read Dance and Community Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University graduating in 2007 and have recently returned there as Associate Lecturer in the field of Dance Performance, Technique and Choreography. Professionally, I have collaborated with several contemporary dance choreographers including Birmingham based - and one of the original DAiRs, Rosie Kay, and currently Vincent Cacialano of ‘Magie Music Dance’ based in the Netherlands. The majority of my work is delivered with the community with the concept of using art as a form of therapy and to promote rehabilitation and regeneration; something that I am particularly passionate about. I am involved in co-ordinating arts based projects for a diverse range of participants of many ages, abilities and backgrounds As a musician, Rachel is the front woman of a Jazz/Folk combo writing her own original material that draws from a vast spectrum of musical influences. She and her band have performed at many high profile local venues both here and in Manchester. In January of this year Rachel released her second EP titled ‘Look what the Kats’ brought in’. In 2007, Rachel was awarded the North Staffordshire Woman of Achievement award for the category of ‘Arts and Music’. STOP PRESS – Rachel begins here Dance Artist activity with two dancetastic intensives during the summer holidays for ages 8 years, and over – see separate feature. |
