Sensual and emotionally charged world class dance

Phoenix Dance Theatre

Phoenix Dance Theatre has an international reputation for presenting inspiring, entertaining contemporary dance, performed by a formidable group of dancers handpicked from around the world.

American choreographers José Limón and Jane Dudley, crucial figures in the development of modern dance, feature their landmark works that are rarely seen in the UK. This includes The Moor’s Pavane, Limón’s signature work based on Othello with music by Purcell and Harmonica Breakdown choreographed by Jane Dudley, co-founder of London Contemporary Dance School.

Javier De Frutos, the company’s Olivier-award winning Director is a notorious maverick of the dance world whose passionate Latin American spirit informs his vivid choreographic interpretation. His repertoire includes Los Picadores, a carnal approach to Stravinsky’s Les Noces; and the colourful Nopalitos, inspired by the Mexican ‘Day of the Dead’ festival. He is well known for his work with Rambert Dance Company and his choreography of Cabaret in the West End.
