Lucia di Lammermoor

Based on Sir Walter Scott's novel, The Bride of Lamermoor, Lucia di Lammermoor is the tale of a feud between two families, the Ashtons and Ravenswoods. The opera is often acclaimed as Donizetti's finest work and is widely considered to be one of the most exhilarating operas of the 19th century.

It has been over 20 years since Scottish Opera mounted a production of Lucia di Lamermoor and we are thrilled that this new version is directed by Inverness-born John Doyle, whose recent Sweeney Todd on Broadway won him a Tony award. Leading South African soprano Sally Silver sings the title role while Lucia's lover Edgardo is sung by Turkish tenor Bulent Bezduz. Julian Smith and James Grossmith share the conducting honours.
