But Paul endures, to a great extent due to the deep and loving bonds of comradeship he forges with the other soldiers in the trenches. This moving story shows that just as the brimstone butterfly thrives in the field of battle, somehow the men keep one another’s spirits alive, even amid the horrors of the Great War.
