Gene Pitney, Roy Orbison and The Everly Brothers are a few of the small, exclusive group of acts who continued to enjoy big radio hits on both sides of the Atlantic following the British invasion on the US music scene in the early-mid sixties. All were a powerful infl uence upon the phenomenons that became The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys - and are included in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
Gene Pitney’s most famous songs include ‘Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa’, ‘Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart’ and the title song of the film ‘Town Without Pity’, which won him a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Song. He also wrote songs for numerous other artists, including the early hit for Roy Orbison, ‘Today’s Teardrops’. The Big O, famed for wearing dark sunglasses when performing, is a legend of the rock-ballad. His hits inlcude ‘Ooby Dooby’, ‘Only The Lonely’, ‘Running Scared’, ‘Crying’ and ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’. Don and Phil Everley are remembered for hits such as ‘Bye Bye Love’, ‘Wake Up Little Susie’ and ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’ - the B-side for which was a cover of Roy Orbison’s early song ‘Claudette’.
Completing this dream line-up are 2 more of America’s greatest ever solo acts - Del Shannon who shot to fame with one of Rock and Roll’s greatest ever sounds ‘Runaway’ and went on to have hit after hit both here and in the US, and the wonderful Ricky Nelson whose biggest hit in the U.K. was ‘Poor Little Fool’ and his other million sellers including ‘It’s Late’, ‘Hello Mary-Lou’, ‘Lonesome Town’, and many, many more. Finally, supporting all of these legendary stars is America’s favourite instrumental band The Ventures (‘Walk Don’t Run’, ‘Perfi dia’), who will help make the evening a magical one for all 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll enthusiasts.
Co-creators of such hit shows as Four Steps To Heaven, Elvis That’s The Way It Is and The Roy Orbison Story, Bill Kenwright and Keith Strachan once again recreate those special days of the golden era of Rock and Roll with fantastic evocations of six of pop’s greatest acts. A concert that really would have been too good to be true! In this fantastic new production, we get to see the show that never was - six legendary acts, doing what they do best - together!
