The Orpheus Club
Jekyll & Hyde
The Orpheus Club makes a welcome return to Glasgow’s King’s Theatre with Jekyll and Hyde - The Musical. This powerful musical has never been presented by an amateur club in Glasgow, and as the title suggests, the story is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s short novel - The Strange Tale of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - which was first published in 1886, only six years before the founding of The Orpheus Club. The story has always fascinated readers, directors, film makers, and the public at large, and during 2007 the BBC televised an updated version of the story, starring James Nesbitt.
The musical, with book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Frank Wildhorn, was premiered on Broadway, at last, in 1997, after seven years of embryo productions, and various
recordings, all successful - and since that date Jekyll and Hyde - The Musical, has become one of the most enduring and popular of all Broadway musicals.
The Orpheus Club’s 2008 production promises to be a stunning theatrical experience, with Walter Paul returning as Director, and Andrew Nicol as Musical Director, Catherine Dunn as Choreographer, and Ian Irving as Lighting Designer.
Jekyll and Hyde - The Musical should prove yet another triumph in The Orpheus Club’s long and unique history of theatrical performances.
