Eduardo Barreto presents
a double bill by French playwright Jean Cocteau

Both monologues performed by Celia Williams
the part of The Gigolo in THE SOUND OF SILENCE performed by Carstens Hayes

Act 1:

The Human Voice

by Jean Cocteau

Cocteau's intriguing psychological drama unfolds in the form of an extended monologue - a one - sided telephone conversation - in which the woman on the verge of a breakdown tries to save what's left of a passionate love affair.

The Human Voice has been performed by some of the world's greatest actresses including Ingrid Bergman, Anna Magnani, Liv Ullman, Simone Signoret and Carmen Maura in Pedro Almodovar's film Law of Desire.

Act 2:

The Sound of Silence

by Jean Cocteau

Edith Piaf asked Cocteau to write something for her and the outcome was The Sound of Silence. (or Le Bel Indifferent). It was first performed in February 1940. Edith Piaf's performance was legendary.

"... powerfully bleak... (the two monologues) together make for an evening of powerful emotions..."
Robert Shore, METRO

"One is greatful to director Eduardo Barreto for providing the opportunity to see these pieces..."
Ian Shuttleworth, FINANCIAL TIMES

"These two short plays by Jean Cocteau are both riffs on the quaint idea of the monologue for two people. It works brilliantly. ... (Celia) Williams is engrossing..."
Jonathan Gibbs, TIME OUT
